Improving human health and well-being is the ultimate goal of Human Technopole. We need to prevent and cure diseases to allow people of all ages to not only live longer, but also live better.

Thanks to a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to the study of human biology, HT’s research aims to understand the mechanisms underlying various diseases, exploiting the technological advances of the last decade and the enormous amount of biological, clinical and socio-economic data currently available to improve the national healthcare system and the quality of life of all citizens.

Human Technopole’s research is based on five interdisciplinary research areas: Genomics, Neurogenomics, Structural Biology, Computational Biology and Health Data Science.

Starting from early 2024, Human Technopole will be opening the first National Facilities available to the national scientific community to carry out top-level research in their respective fields.

Courses and Conferences

The overarching and inspiring theme for HT’s external training activities is to create a centre of excellence for training promising researchers in the biomedical sciences, while enabling broad access to HT’s expertise, methods and resources.

  • Rare diseases: Telethon-Cariplo funds two research projects at HT

    Two research projects from Human Technopole have won the Fondazione Telethon and Cariplo grant to uncover the genetic and molecular mechanisms of acute myeloid leukemia and congenital adrenal hyperplasia. The projects, led by Alice Giustacchini (Group Leader of Genomics) and Emanuele Villa (Testa Group, Neurogenomics), have been respectively funded with €230,000 and €250,000.

  • First Marie Curie Fellowships for Human Technopole

    Two Human Technopole researchers have been awarded the Marie Curie postdoctoral fellowship, one of the most prestigious fellowships for early career researchers: Dr. Carlos Jiménez and Dr. Albert Navarro Gallinad. Dr. Navarro Gallinad’s research project, presented today on National Women’s Health Day, will investigate the environmental risks faced by pregnant women by analysing almost 1,000,000 births in Lombardy over the last twelve years. Dr. Jiménez will study how the spatial arrangement of nuclear proteins contributes to optimal cell functioning.

  • Human Technopole Celebrates its First PhDs

    Three young scientists from Human Technopole have, for the first time since its foundation, obtained a doctoral degree while pursuing their research within the institute: Alessandro Vinceti, Davide Castaldi, and Marco Tullio Rigoli, all enrolled in the systems medicine programme of the European School of Molecular Medicine (SEMM).

  • HT Director’s Lectio Magistralis

    Human Technopole’s Director Marino Zerial was invited last week to give the Lectio Magistralis during the inauguration ceremony of University of Genoa’s academic year 2023-2024.
